My beautiful bad boys and girls of the Dark Kind are beguiling so many people that I have created this blog as a relaxed and friendly forum to chat about them- and anything else we want to, for that matter. Though I created this blog for humans, I suspect one or two of the Dark Kind may also join in!"

Legacy of the Dark Kind

Blood Tears is the first of a series of books about the Dark Kind, beautiful, forever young, amoral and ferocious blood drinkers.

The Dark Kind are not supernatural but creatures of flesh, blood and strong emotions. They are not human, they are not the Undead. There are no bats, coffins, capes or stakes in the Legacy series. Nor are there Hammer House of Horror virgins with heaving cleavages.
Instead, it is intriguing, complex yet tautly written and pacey saga spanning the lives of the last scattered survivors of the Dark Kind and the humans they encounter in their fight to stay alive in a hostile world.

Blood Tears tells the story of Jendar Azrar, the last warlord of the Dark Kind.
What if you had the chance to live, forever young and handsome but in humiliating isolation? Or accept inevitable death, openly confronting your enemies. That is the dilemma facing Prince Azrar.
When a foreign child is abandoned by her family to die in Isolann’s wolf-ridden forests, she is taken to live under Azrar’s protection as his ward. The strange ability that the girl possesses, a power that so terrified her own people, could be the only hope for Azrar’s survival.

Blood Lament is Jazriel’s story. Vain, hedonistic and not too bright, living on his reckless courage, beauty and seductive charm. But he is haunted by the twin demons of optimism and hope. When these are vanquished, can anything prevent his spiral of self-destruction?
“The reanimated corpse of a suicidal, junkie male whore vampire.” Jazriel’s description of himself. Others opinion about him is far more colourful and explicit! With the Dark Kind’s future hanging in the balance, the unlikely pairing of a dissolute wreck of a blood drinker and a feisty, argumentative vampire-hating human woman could be their only hope.

Blood Alliance will be when the Dark Kind finally discover why they were created. Humanity learns it is under a terrible threat but not from the vampires that have preyed on mankind from the darkness of night. Something is coming, something that other races have been unable to stop, their worlds left as lifeless, sterile spheres in the uncaring darkness of space. Can two mortal enemies find some common ground against a threat that appears overwhelming, insurmountable?

Blood Legend is a prequel, taking the reader back in time, to the era when the Dark Kind nobility ruled the earth from their vast palaces of marble and granite. And the remarkable human princess who is prepared to sacrifice her life to save her people by making a political marriage to Dezarn, a fearsome Vampire King. This one is for Azrar fans!

Blood Destiny is still in the deep recesses of Raven’s imagination!

If you can’t get enough of Jazriel, he is making a guest appearance in the fourth book in the Sea Witch series by Helen Hollick. The book will be called ‘On the Account’ and is due to be published in 2008. Check this website or Helen’s www.helenhollick.co.uk for future details.

Legacy of the Dark Kind

So, who are these Dark Kind? In a term their nobles would find deeply insulting, they are blood drinkers, vampires. But they are not the Undead, not fanged human ghouls. In fact they are not supernatural, but a different species to man, one higher up the food chain! Eternally youthful, beautiful but deadly predators, they are creatures of flesh and blood. Beings with a great passion for love, for life and survival in their now hostile world overrun by humans. Most have lost their lives to the advance of Humanity, but a few scattered survivors remain, hunting in shadows of night, Legacy of the Dark Kind relates their story.

Among the Dark Kind characters in the series, the foremost is Jendar Azrar, Prince of Isolann, a ferocious warlord who lives by a strict code of honour and duty, no matter what the cost to his own life. He is bound to his remote, mountain-girdled Principality, created to protect its human inhabitants and prepared to die to defend them. As the modern world encroaches this forgotten realm, this fate draws ever nearer.
On the opposite side of the scale there is Jazriel, the lowliest caste of commoner, a sha'ref. Created to be a thing of desire and pleasure, he survives on his charm and great beauty. Courageous, vain, hedonistic but not too bright, Jaz turns his back on his created role to find a new destiny in the world of humans.

At last! An exciting pirate novel for adults!

Do you like pirates? How many times have you seen Pirates of the Caribbean. Do you have a fixation with Captain Jack Sparrow? If the answer is yes to any or all of these questions , you will love Helen Hollick's first fantasy novel Sea Witch, the first of the chronicles of Captain Jesamiah Acorne.
Helen is already an acclaimed writer of historical fiction with such wonderful books as Harold the King creating an enthusiatic following.
Reading Helen's books is like going back in time, you can feel the rise and swell of the sea beneath the creaking timbers, see the wind buffeting the canvas sails, smell the hot coast of Africa on the horizon, taste the salt spray on the wind.
Sea Witch is a full-blooded, adult pirate adventure with a most charismatic rogue of a hero ,Jesamiah Acorne.
I thoroughly recommend this novel from an author whose careful research and great love of her pirate and his world shines through from every page.
